Stories are generally told to chronicle events. A story that uses narrative genre may only be a few sentences or it may be very long. Chapter two says that a story can be true, but it does not necessarily have to be. We also can use stories to entertain and/ or instruct. Telling a child a well known fairy-tale is a good example of an entertaining narrative. We could also use stories to persuade others or to sell an object or idea. An example of this is telling a potential employer about your background during a job interview. If you think about commercials you see on television, you would recognize many advertisements are using narratives to sell their products. An example of this is a new happy family that just bought a brand-new car. When writers are editing their work, they are always conscious about the readers perspective. It is important that your writing resonates with the reader and allows him or her to connect to it personally. No matter what your specific genre is, always remember to use ethos, logos, and pathos. It is also important to consider your options of medium before publishing your piece of writing.
